9:00 a.m. Tour the Nevada State Museum. Guided tours available upon advance notice (775-687-4810). The Nevada State Museum is rated one of the top 10 regional museums in the United States. It was a U.S. Mint from 1870 to 1893.
10:00 a.m. Tour the Kit Carson Trail. You will pass turn-of-the-century mansions, courthouses, a depot and even a brewery. Postcard-perfect places welcome you to one of the largest historic residential districts in the west. See the home of Mark Twain’s brother, Orion Clemens, the home where the inventor of the Ferris wheel grew up and the Krebs-Peterson home which was used in John Wayne’s last film “The Shootist”. Contact CCCVB for CD to be played on coaches.
11:00 a.m. Tour the Nevada State Capitol, Nevada State Library and Legislative Building. Guided tours available upon advance notice. (775-687-4810). The Nevada State Capitol and Legislature buildings are located on Carson Street. The Old Senate and Assembly chambers on the second floor of the capitol building are no longer in use; however, rotating historical exhibits are open for public viewing. The new legislature building houses the Senate and Assembly.
12:00 p.m. Lunch at one of Carson City’s restaurants. Call the Convention & Visitors’ bureau for group dining recommendations. (1-800-NEVADA-1).
1:15 p.m. Depart from lunch. Tour the Nevada State Railroad Museum. Guided tours available upon advance notice. (775-687-6953) The Nevada State Railroad Museum contains more than 30 vintage railroad cars and locomotives. Included in the displays are exhibits, photos, artifacts, and memorabilia. The V&T No. 25 is steamed up to pull passengers aboard a two-car excursion train on special weekends.
